Interview over mijn WonderWoman serie in de Focus, geschreven door Roos Schouw
Part of Susanne Middelberg’s self-portraits is the series “Wonder Woman”. What once started as a fun New Year’s card turned into an annual tradition. “Wonder Women” is based on the superhero that Susanne has admired since her childhood. In the series she does not show the miracle side, but the woman behind the heroine. We follow the most drastic events in Susanne’s life. The first image is about the birth of her daughter, a cheerful image, full of humor. Over the years we see her family grow with another son, and the father slowly disappears from the picture. The cheerful images increasingly make way for a vulnerable heroine who desperately tries to keep the strings together. Till a picture of a woman, naked and vulnerable in an anonymous room. Her Wonder Women suit is off and barely visible in the corner of the room. The viewer watches breathlessly. What happened to our superhero, the woman who endured the greatest chaos? (Roel Sandvoort)
